Military-Grade Secure Communications
Meshtastic is an open-source, off-grid mesh networking protocol utilizing low-power LoRa radios for resilient, long-range communication without relying on traditional cellular or internet infrastructure. In high-stakes operations, our private MQTT networks extend this capability globally while maintaining uncompromising security.
Our setup employs dedicated private MQTT brokers to bridge disparate Meshtastic meshes over the internet. Unlike public servers, private brokers enforce custom access controls (ACLs) and eliminate zero-hop limitations, enabling seamless message propagation across remote nodes. Gateway devices—such as ruggedized handhelds or fixed relays—connect local LoRa networks to the broker via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, ensuring redundancy in contested environments. This architecture supports integrations with tactical systems like Home Assistant or Node-RED for automated alerts and telemetry routing.
Key configurations include:
Security is paramount. All channel communications use AES-256 encryption with custom Pre-Shared Keys (PSKs) generated via secure random methods—never default or simple keys. Primary channels encrypt messages, positions, and telemetry broadcasts, rendering them indecipherable to unauthorized listeners.
Advanced features include:
This military-spec implementation guards against passive eavesdropping, active attacks, and known-plaintext exploits, providing a robust foundation for classified mesh operations.
